In this course, we will explore traditional and contemporary methods of oil painting and applying gold leaf. With a focus on creating skin tones and form, captivating images, and layering paint, you will learn the essentials of oils. I will take you through my process from composition and mark making to leafing, so by the end you will take home a masterpiece of your own and the skills to apply to your work in the future. 

• Small tubes of oil paints (any affordable brand- full color sets of 12ml can be found at Jerry's Artarama or Michaels) including Cadmium Yellow Hue, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Orange Hue, Cadmium Red Hue, Alizarin Crimson, Cerulean, Alizarin Purple, Black, and White. If possible additional colors preferred- Phthalo Blue and Raw Umber. Equivalents are acceptable for all colors.

• Palette- Wood or Tempered Glass

• Liquin Original and small jar or container to put it in• 1 roll of Frog Tape (painter’s tape) 

• Craft Smart Gilding Glue

• Brush set- must include at least 2 detail brushes, and a soft round size 6+

• Reference to a portrait you want to paint with good lighting/colors
