KIMI TAKEMURA

DENVER, COLORADO

Kimi is a Colorado-based visual designer whose work blends precision, structure, and organic complexity. With a foundation in 2D animation, graphic novels, and ink drawing, she now draws inspiration from procedural design, code-based art, and emerging 3D digital platforms. Influenced by artists like Raven Kwok and studios such as Ouchhh and Nonotak, Kimi builds intricate forms using algorithms like L-systems to mimic natural growth patterns. Her process embraces the unpredictable beauty that emerges when rules and randomness intersect—often revealing results as intricate as nature itself.

THREE QUESTIONS

  • Your work often features sharp geometry, clean lines, and a strong sense of structure. What originally drew you toward this type of visual language? Were there certain artists, experiences, or even non-art influences that shaped this direction?

Before digital my art background is in 2D animation, graphic novels and ink drawings. At some point I found and am continually inspired by code art and procedural design. Artists of note are Raven Kwok, Joanie Lemercier and 100 Rabbits. Design studios that have impacted me are Ouchhh, Kurppa Hosk and Nonotak. There is also a movement of 3d artists building social VR worlds, an international digital platform.

  • Your new tree design is one of our favorites. Can you tell us a bit about what went through your mind while making this design?

This was built in 3D using an L-system (Lindenmayer system), a math formula that models the growth of plants and fractals. You can build shapes that follow natural structures, and then add variables like noise, number of iterations and gravity amount to achieve different results. There is also a grid system of sorts for the placement of asymmetric 2D components.

  • Since your work is built so much inside digital tools, how much does the software itself guide the aesthetic? Do you ever find that the limitations or quirks of the programs actually help shape the final design in unexpected ways?

Working procedurally is to discover endless variety within a consistent set of rules. You don’t know what the final output will look like, or what will happen when you blend, loop and mix parts together. The result is often more beautiful and intricate than expected, almost like nature itself.

WHAT IS THE ART RITUAL?

Every Friday at 12PM PST -  a new artist steps forward to offer a sacred collection — a one-time-only special release that blends contemporary art, apparel, and storytelling.

The Art Ritual is more than just a product drop. It’s a living, breathing creative ceremony. Each volume includes three pieces: a limited-edition apparel item, a fine art print, and a gallery-quality canvas — all available for just seven days. Once the week ends, the ritual is sealed, and that edition is never released again.

By participating, you're not just collecting art — you're becoming part of a growing movement. A global circle of collectors, creators, and dreamers, all united in the celebration of imagination, transformation, and expression.

This is your invitation to witness the process, connect with new artists, and bring something rare and powerful into your space.
