I took some time off last week to travel up to the 4th annual MIdwest Ski Film Festival held at the Lorring theater in Minneapolis, MN. The weekend was a great success with over 400 people making it out to watch ski films and meet and greet with some of the most talented skiers in the world, including X-Game gold medalist Tom Wallisch.
Threyda team rider Steve Janisch, aka “NIftyIX” was in attendance and took 3rd place at Summit board shop’s rail jam. Let me take a minute to tell everyone how cool Summit board shop is, they are currently redesigning their indoor skatepark to be similar to Rob Dyrdek’s “street leagues” setup. Might I also mention they have a ski hill in their backyard where the rail jam was held. If you are ever in in the area, make sure to stop by and check it out for your self their ski hill is open in summer as well!
While in Minnesota we decided to take advantage of their strong dubstep scene. Our first night in town Zeds Dead played at the Skyway Lounge, later that week we had a chance to catch up with some of the OG’s of dubstep, Skream & Benga. They played a blackout set with a single spot light shining through out the crowd the entire set, one of the most unique dj battle’s I have seen to date. If that was not enough, Friday night’s after party for the Ski Film Festival brought out Big Gigantic at the Cabooze for a sold out event. I heard a rumor that this venue is in relations to the hells angels, explaining the biker bar next door and the endless amounts of leather and motorcycles littering the parking lot. All in all, a great venue with a surprisingly friendly crowd, highly recommended!
Minneapolis is filled with good times, I will leave you with a couple of videos from the week.
